4 out of 5 stars I like it, the Trackstick is pretty easy to use   October 7, 2008

Nice and simple. One button and you just go. More electronics should be like this. I don't even know that much about computers but the software was pretty easy to figure out. The rubber was a nice touch, and the clip makes it easy for backpacks. Generally, this is one to get if you're looking for a simple GPS tracker that is easy to learn.

5 out of 5 stars Yes, it does work anywhere   September 15, 2008

Actually I found Trackstick to work pretty well in Europe, albeit messing with the software settings a little. It's not as difficult as it first looks, as with most new programs. The first time I used Trackstick the red map routes it created were a little jumpy, but I quickly learned that it was my fault for not giving it time to connect to the satellites. Just set it outside facing the sky for a minute or so until the light turns green and after that you're pretty much good to go anywhere. I had this on the train from Zurich to Paris last year and even through the snow and some shorter tunnels it got a pretty accurate recording. Just bought a new one after losing my other. It's definitely a good way to show off your vacation to people. I just love seeing all the squiggly lines going throughout the maps.

Trackstick doesn't seem as power heavy to me than some of the other reviews on here. Mine were able to last (with constant daily recording on the trains) for more than a few days with any given set of batteries, keeping in mind that it was CONSTANTLY on. Of course since then I've upgraded to the Super so the battery life goes a little longer because of the vibration detector, and must agree with the recommendation for rechargeables, which is mostly a common sense thing if you plan on using this a lot.

Also one of the nicest manuals I've seen for a product like this or any other. Quite graphical and easy to navigate.

I actually have a few of these, but kept one and gave the others to some friends. We usually go out a lot to eat, shop, and just hang out, and sometimes use Trackstick just to show the expanse of our crazy Saturdays or to share where our favorite picks from stores or garage sales were made. I even used it once while I was apartment hunting to mark parts of the city I had already checked out.

It's no big deal, just a simple tool that proves to be really useful when you need it.

This works just how it's supposed to, although I think I'd like the Super Trackstick even more, being someone who can dish out the extra bucks for some more features like the magnetic clip and vibration detector. Trackstick II is great for someone using GPS tracking a little more casually, like daily driving or going on a jog in the morning, but I needed something a bit more stealthy, along the lines of the Super version of Trackstick. But I suppose it satisfies anyone looking for a simple, low-cost tracking device. I must say though, compared to other trackers, the software here is quite impressive and can really open up some options to a guru who plays with the settings enough. I especially liked the mini-photo browser they built into the program for geotagging.

5 out of 5 stars Can't leave without it   September 11, 2008

I love it! A Trackstick is just useful to have, especially on vacation! I took it with me diving in Belize and kept it on the diveboat the whole time. Every day I'd plug it into my laptop so I could see the areas I missed or still needed to go. Granted, I couldn't take it in the water, but that didn't stop me from using the geotag feature to tag all the pictures I took with my underwater camera and sync them to the areas where Trackstick was recording. I can literally see all the spots I dove in, and with Google Earth I can put little pins on the red Trackstick route to my favorite (and secret!) spots.

I have to agree with with the review mentioning rechargeable batteries, definitely a good idea to have, especially when traveling, but from what you get out of a Trackstick, they are more than worth it and always come in handy for other things.
