5 out of 5 stars Awesome GPS for the Knight Rider fan!!!   January 6, 2009
Margaret Wilcox (Tennessee)
This Knight Rider GPS system is great! I love the voice and that you can find your name on a huge list of pre-loaded names. It works very accurately, and it is in sync with your vehicle moving down the road.

I highly recommend this product for the Knight Rider fanatic! It's an awesome addition to any vehicle!

5 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but 5-stars for creativity and novelty...   December 31, 2008
Daniel Hayes (Boston, Massachusetts)
The Knight Rider GPS from Mio delivers as advertised. It is a really nice GPS unit, featuring the added novelty of the original voice of K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider. The unit also features red LEDs that light up on each side of the GPS whenever it is speaking (giving you directions). I really enjoy the unit, and appreciate the novelty of it, which is why I am giving it an overall 5-star rating. We need more fun, creative objects like this on the market.

Anyway, without further delay:

THE PROS / POSITIVES:
****The red LEDs on the left and right edges of the GPS that light up whenever the unit speaks -- these are GREAT! They are really cool and effective, and the effect isn't distracting at all (although it might make someone who passes by you wonder what it is!)

****The original voice of K.I.T.T. -- sounds great. As mentioned in the other reviews, it's not as clean-cut sounding as the original K.I.T.T. - The voice is the same, but sounds slightly more robotic since it is giving you pre-programmed information. Also, sometimes when giving a direction, the voice will complete a sentence sounding more like it has asked you a question than given you a direction (i.e., "Turn right onto exit 34?") ---> What I think would be great is if Mio could spend some time digitizing some actual samples of the real K.I.T.T. using the Knight Rider DVDs, and then allow owners of this GPS to download a software update which would add more of K.I.T.T.'s personality to this unit (i.e., an occasional joke or tone of caution). THAT would be really cool!

****In terms of general GPS, this unit is really sharp looking.

THE CONS / NEGATIVES:
****The only complaint that I have here is one that some other people have mentioned -- when the GPS unit is attached to the mounting bracket, it can be a real pain in the neck to try to connect the mini-USB connection of the charger's wire to the GPS unit. The reason for this is simple (and annoying): they require you to connect the charging cable to the bottom of the GPS unit through a small hole in the mounting bracket - and they made the hole on the bottom of the mounting bracket too small! If they had just made the hole larger, this wouldn't be an issue at all... But, since it is an issue, then sometimes while you are driving, the wire will become slightly loose from the bottom of the GPS unit, which will lead to the unit telling you that the battery charge level is low. It is then very difficult to squeeze the wire back into the bottom of the GPS unit (especially dangerous if you try to do this while driving). They should actually do a safety recall on the mounting bracket just due to this issue. ANYWAY, to get around this issue, I am just going to try to make the hole in my own mounting bracket larger (using a tool such as a Dremmel or maybe a drill). Hopefully that will work, because that is really my only complaint with this great GPS unit.

5 out of 5 stars The original KITT!   December 30, 2008
Christmas Ape (USA)
Finally, not just a GPS voiced by KITT (William Daniels), but a KNIGHT RIDER themed one! I think they did a great job with this, and it's more than I could ask for. This GPS is strictly for a nostalgic KNIGHT RIDER fan, I wouldn't recommend it to someone who wasn't. But for someone who is, this is the sole GPS for you.

I like this unit alot. Granted for the same price, you could get better units but none of them talk to you in the KITT voice! Its done a decent job in helping me find my destinations and the KITT cool factor is just off the charts. I've also dealt with their tech support due to some quirky early issues and they were very helpful and responsive. Soooo...

Pros:
-Cool voice and lights.
-Tracking you, giving directions, and on the fly workarounds is as good as most other gps devices.
-Very quick in finding gps satellites
-Really good customer service
-free map upgrade if you purchase before Feb.

Cons:
-No traffic tracker
-touch screen can be a bit "under" sensitive
-few directions I've dealt with were a bit subpar

I was VERY disappointed with this GPS. The maps were all wrong, and the customer service informed me i would have to wait 5 months to receive a new map update. I returned it immediately!
