4 out of 5 stars Nice GPS   January 9, 2009
J. Wing (Texas USA)
I bought the refurbished 4250 because of the price. I find using it to be less than intuitive, but it is quite nice to have.

It worked ok right out of the box and the battery was partially charged. I charged it up and turned it on. I tried to enter home, but it wouldn't accept our location. It did however find our neighbors house so I used their address. I figured out how to set the time and Daylight savings - oops - Daylight savings has to be off when we are not in Daylight savings time - how strange is that? Well, OK, it works!

I don't want to mount the unit in the car using stick-on disk - I tried using loop/hook (Velcro) but the adhesive on the back of these won't hold. So I'm looking at a couple of other mounting methods (beanbag and vent).

I finally figured out how to enter an address in the address book, a little odd but it works. Didn't offer me a way to save it though so it was lost at the end of the trip. The first route I wanted it to go to was a location that has been there for years - I mean over ten years. When I tried to enter the address, it didn't allow me to enter the street name, but when I got there, it had me on the right street by name. So I saved current location and later filled in the name. This is pretty worthless! I want to use this thing to find locations, not have to know where they are!

Another thing is you have to enter the city, then the town, then the street, then the number. It wouldn't take #### street, city, state, zip! How strange is that? Besides that it gives you clues and if the street has a letter that it doesn't recognize, it won't accept it. It does give you possible locations and allows you to select one, which is nice.

I was not impressed by the voice commands. It allows only a set few. No AI here, that is for sure. But Go Home is good and you can step through to get the other things done. Voice command was pretty fussy too. It wouldn't acknowledge that it even heard me, so I couldn't tell except when it recognized the command (ie, no sorry that does not compute).

Oh and the real pain in the finger - you push on a picture to select it, but it doesn't respond so you push again but then you get the first push plus the second push apparently selects what is on the new panel from the first push. I keep getting to the AAA panel when I don't want it that way. At very least, the second panel shouldn't have selector at the same point as the ones that call it. Not too tough! I'll probably get used to it.

The sound is loud enough, I turned it down some. The panels are bright enough. Things seem to happen quickly enough although I think I will install the 4.6 firmware as recommended by others. I am reluctant to pay $80 for an update to 2008-2009 maps until I'm sure they are better.

I am disappointed that many of the cross streets do not show on the map as I go by - only a few of the major ones do. Also, as a city is approached, there is no indication that you are approaching the city nor the name of the city, just some major cross street intersections - I guess that info is on the street signs? The map does show major bodies of water and rivers, creeks, etc. It shows some state parks, too.

I have noticed that the unit turns off like it has lost power from the adapter (it asks do you want to run on battery) but then within a second or two, it comes back on. I wonder if this was the problem that they refurbished this one to overcome.

All in all, it is a nice product and appears to work as advertised.

1 out of 5 stars BLECH!! Amazon sent me TWO defective units.   January 9, 2009
Hockey Dad (Orange, CA)
The product is probably fine (I have two 3250 units that I like), but Amazon has no quality control for reburbished units. The second one they sent me had defects on the screen that could be seen by just turning the unit on.

Other than that, everything was great! Ya-hoo!!

4 out of 5 stars Good product   January 9, 2009

Purchased three for the family. All three functioned well except the blue tooth connection is poor. Required firmware and software up date.

5 out of 5 stars HAPPY   January 9, 2009
MD,JD (California)
This was great out of the box. Picked up position a little slowly, but got it right after 5 minutes. Slow in city to do this with large buildings, but faster in the country.
Difficult to pair with my iPhone.
Generally very happy I purchased this.
Upgraded firmware (Free) helped with the speed.

4 out of 5 stars Really pleased with GPS!   January 8, 2009
Barbara D. Tindell (Knoxville, TN)
Well I will start by saying that I have never owned another GPS but I did ALOT of research prior to my purchase. I bought my GPS when it was on sale and got a killer deal on it only problem I had (and the reason why I didnt give it 5 stars) was the SD card slot didnt work when I received it. I contacted Amazon and exsplained I just wanted to return for another one but it was no longer made so they couldn't replace it BUT would give me a complete refund(one of the countless reasons I would never shop anywhere else) I decided with the excellent deal I got from the purchase it would be foolish to return it and have to pay a hundred dollars more at least to replace it with another unit with the same features. I am very happy other than the SD card reader and have told everyone who ask what a great deal I got on it and everything I have bought from Amazon.com.
